1910’s Vintage Leather Football Shoulder Pads by Reach. The offered vintage football shoulder pads were made by the A.J. Reach Sporting Goods Company from Philadelphia, PA. They are a wonderful example of the bare minimum pads that were worn by football players from this era. Some still chose not to wear any pads at all! This particular pair has survived nearly a decade in amazingly excellent condition. The leather remains soft and supple and the compressed felt padding is also nearly perfect. B

The words in parentheses are mine, the others came with the photo on the site. I actually think it's 05, as it is also on the harness. This is the first pic I've seen closely with the thing on. It's freaky looking, and was actually popular long before the use of a helmet.

1880-90’s Melon-Style Vintage Football. This is a very unique, vintage football. This exceptional, melon football dates from the 1880's to the 1890's. It was unearthed in the confines of the historic Girard College of Philadelphia. This is one of the finest footballs we have handled in all of our 19, almost 20 years! It remains wonderfully plump and is constructed of high grade leather that remains soft and supple. It's almost spherical appearance is something seen on the very early cabinet foot

Man’s football uniform, c. 1910 The maroon rib-knit wool sweater, padded gold canvas pants and brown leather helmet were probably worn by Robert Lane McCrady (1888-1945) at the College of Charleston. The pants have a front fly with metal grommets for lacing. Pads are sewn inside front and back hips and front at knees. Thigh fronts have inserted vertical rods, probably wood. The helmet is lined with cotton batting. Gift of the Estate of Emily S. McCrady (Robert’s sister) in 1975
