book marks made out of paint samples! free and easy!
Yeah, I have to agree with some of y'all. These are very cute, but they aren't free, they are costing someone something. They are free for the customers that will most likely be purchasing their paint, not free for people to use for things like this.
Just ask at the counter if they are discontinuing a color or line, if so take those or ask them to save them for you when they do...They just pitch them in the trash when that happens......
Our home depot and lowes always donated tons of items for our school and community ask and I am sure you shall receive.
Yes, home improvement stores are always donated paint stirrers, paint can openers, paint samples, carpet samples..... They are tossed if they are not used.... Why not upcycle them? Heck, you could probably go in and ask for a desired amount of them and they'd give them to you... If this project upsets you so much then why'd you take the time comment on it? There really are bigger issues out there then being upset over something like this.
I'm going to do this for my daughter's class!
So cute!! P.S. it never occurred to me that people would just take them, I assumed that people wanting these would politely ask :):):)
I'm with you Maria.....I swear people just go on posts to complain! Get a life and move on. Geesh!
Uhhhhh.... Whut was the question?
soon we will have to pay for our paint samples because everyone it taking them to craft.
You know there is a difference between asking for discontinued paint samples and making a run on the paint chips that are on display in the stores. I swear some of you get it and some of you don't. I really could care less if you want to pilfer what doesn't belong to you but like some said, "someone has to pay for these samples". I bet these are the same women who take 10 or 20 newspaper flyer inserts with coupons because they are "free" No matter that someone else might want some coupons. But hey if you feel you are that special, go for it.
Im feeling a little creative this year.
My husband owns an independent paint store, mostly selling Benjamin Moore paint. I have discussed this with him when it has come up other places online. He gets the chips for free, and does not mind if someone takes them for craft projects. If you want to do more than what is in the rack (20 or more of the same color) he just asks that you ask him to special order them for you. Still doesn't cost him or you, and he is glad to do it.
I would greatly appreciate it if everyone could keep their negative thoughts to themselves. This was simply a crafting idea, and if you don't agree with it when don't do it. I am an interior design student and have hundreds of these laying around, and I enjoyed the idea for the samples I wouldn't use. Paint companies want people to take these samples to get the colors out there. If you're going to take a bulk of one pallet then yes I would ask an employee if you could, but most likely they would say yes. Again please keep your comments positive, thank you. Enjoy crafting!!
Glas Suzanne commented about this craft...Put it to bed and just enjoy crafting...If u dont want to use pre-made samples , then by all means make them yourself. This site is suppose to get your creative juices flowing NOT all this negativity!!
Suzanne Powell...Thank you for your post. I have never in my life seen so many comments on a simple little craft in all my days. Thank you for letting EVERYONE KNOW that they wont be STEALING them if they take some for a craft project and that if they need more they can simply ASK. I thought for a while there that our National Ecomony was going to come under fire due to people making a run on all the paint sample cards and how all the home supply and paint business were going out of business due to the CRAZY CRAFT IDEA...the national guard was going to be called in and OH, I just didn't know what was next. So Everyone can RELAX and Take a BIG DEEP BREATHE and know that ALL IS WELL. And Melanie McCloskey, I couldn't agree more. If you don't like a PIN, MOVE ON. Let the rest of us enjoy it and repin it to our boards and to our friends and you can get back on FB and tell everyone what NUTS we are. Keep On Crafting! Lowes and Home Depot Support you!!
This is such a cute and very simple craft! And like a few people before have said, how on earth are there so many negative comments about this? Isn't Pinterest supposed to be fun? This is a place to post ideas and creativity. And like a few said as well, paint chips are FREE at Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot. You can also order them in bulk for FREE directly from the paint manufacturers. They make the paint chips in bulk for the very purpose that you take them. The paint however is about $15 to $20 a gallon. Thanks for playing! Now move on and lets have some fun pinning on Pinterest!
Love the idea but how do you get all the cut out hearts on them? I have never seen anything in the store to do this.
there are small scrapbook punches that will slip over the strip or square.
Thanks! I will look in that section in the store.
I love this idea and will be going to Lowe's tonight to ASK for some samples and I will explain what I am going to do with them in detail and I am sure whoever working and even the company that makes them will not mind bc their name will still be on it and it will be in my book and not in the trash (which is where most people would put them!) This is a cute idea & shame on people for turning it into something else!
Exactly what I did Beth!!! I just made them today for my children and students and they came out ADORABLE!!!! :)
Do paint stores get ticked off with folks taking all the paint chips?
Going to make for my book club!!!!
I cant believe all the comments on such a simple craft idea..........
And another fine example of someone PISSING OFF THE PINTREST POLICE!
I love the idea and being an avid re-decorator and because of my job, I have gobs of these. I also own 2 whole paint sample books that were GIVEN to me from the paint store bc they were outdated. Kind of like these lame criticisms... I'm pretty certain Melannie is no way suggesting we teach our children to steal. Oh brother...
I went to Home Depot yesterday & asked about taking samples, they told me to take "every sample if I wanted to!"
Oh wow, for a minute I thought I was on facebook with all the crap talk! Super cute idea! I seriously doubt making bookmarks from paint chips has contributed to a gimme society ! J/s
These comments are LOL funny!
Very cute idea!
Love this...my kind of craft (easy!) Thanks for sharing!!
These are so cute
Off to lowes I go
Great idea! I'll repost for sure and my daughters class will enjoy! Thanks for the crafty tip!
This is so cute! Love the idea, some people are too serious about pinterest though! Take a chill pill the world won't stop just because someone grabbed 5 paint chips! Anyway, crafty and cute. Definitely going to do this!
I think it's a cute idea. If you don't approve of this idea, keep on moving. Especially the people that have turned this into a discussion board.
WOW ! I am baffled by all the negative comments..if you have a problem then don't do it but DON'T judge another person without knowing the facts..I love this idea and I agree it is more of a promotion for the paint colors and it will be encouraged by the store..just think how many little girls will want their rooms be that shade of pink..Love love love this idea
This is seriously getting rediculous, this isn't Facebook where drama can be started. It's a place to share ideas. Sheesh, no need to get bent out of shape people.
OMG !!!!! STOP IT We should be sharing ideas here this is the most AWESOME place in the WWW come on LADIES if you don't like it just move on or go comment on your faceBook page!!!!Lol now lets all run out to the home depot and gets some paint chips and get to crafting!!!!
