Manitou Springs Cliff Dwellings, Colorado Springs, CO - The Anasazi did not live in the Manitou Springs area, but lived and built their cliff dwellings in the Four Corners area. The cliff dwellings were relocated in the early 1900s, as a museum, preserve, and tourist attraction. The stones were taken from a collapsed Anasazi site near Cortez, CO, shipped to Manitou Springs, and assembled in their present form as Anasazi-style buildings closely resembling those found in the Four Corners.

Native American Cliff Dwellings - Mesa Verde, Colorado
Cliff Palace At Mesa Verde - Cliff Palace is the iconic cliff dwelling at Mesa Verde National Park. Built by the ancient anasazi people, the square tower house appears today much as it was in the late 13th century. Rooms were added, abandoned, modified throughout its occupation, creating the dense clustering of rooms with its size that intrigues me. The layering and massing of forms create an architecture similar to the modern movement of the twentieth century.
