This boy named Herre died in 1873 at the age of two years and a half. The photo was found in his father's diary, which mentions the following: "We had one portrait made in his bed after he died by Ephraim. Later he put the head on a portrait of his child, wearing Herre's clothes, which became quite good". A very unusual example of early photoshopping avant la lettre!
Anne Frank, born June 6, 1929, died March 1945 (from typhus contracted in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp) a few days after her older sister Margot had died from the disease in the camp. Their deaths occurred about a month before the camp's liberation on April 12, 1945. Anne kept a diary, which chronicled the twenty-five months during which she, her family, and four other Jews were together in hiding at 263 Prinsengracht, Amsterdam, Netherlands. The diary was published in 1947.
