GERANIUMS Place upside down in cardboard box or paper bag.....cover with newspaper and store in garage, inside wall. Do not let plants freeze. Leave them in box 'till Spring when you replant them in fresh new soil (miracle grow) works well. Plant will start growing new leaves within a week. Do not cut any stems away for at least 6 weeks, plant will double in size.
I have to try this...mine usually get tossed out after each season...what a waste.
I'am going to try this too, I bring in one or two winter over, the rest get toss....hope it works!
Must give this a try too.
Will try this too and hope it works !
I put mine in the garage still in pots, near my grow lights.Watered sparingly.Put them out this spring & they are doing great!
I am going to try this.
I'm gonna try this too!
No Way! Never too old to learn. A must do this year.
I tryed something similer im still waiting . Its been 5 days and no green yet.
If you want more Geraniums. take the cuttings and stick them in new moist soil and keep them watered. Begonias will work too.
good way to get more plants without buying any, thanks!
I've done this, but seems like I never get good blooms the second year. Any pointers?
I winter mine over indoors every year and they bloom like crazy on the sun porch. I lost a bunch to a hard freeze last winter, but still had enough to fill multiple pots this spring. They bloom fine. My current plants are from the first ones I bought about 10 years ago. They did, however, all revert to red.
I will try this again. My daughter did it, and hers look fabulous and are bursting with blooms.
I have noticed this year that
the stems grow so long that they break from the weight of the bloom.
I over winter mine (bare root) in a paper bag, once a month I put the plants in a bucket of water for one hour then return them to the paper bag. Come spring, I pot the plants up and withing a few weeks I have big flowering plants.
never tried that , but going to! thanks
I'm excited to try this. Thanks!
@ Deb...that is awesome I am going to try this... thanks!!!
This method works well, my geraniums were truly beautiful and they double in size as well. The flowers are large with a long stem base.
My dad hangs his upside down in an onion bag in his basement. Does nothing to them and they just start developing green shoots on their own. It has worked a few times for me also.
I have been doing this for years.. I must admit I'm not as neat as this I used to hang them upside down in my basement but now I just bring in the pot leave them in garage and come spring bring them back out. I water, fertilize some and sometimes add soil. Later on I take cuttings and make more. It really works
This will save a lot of money. I am excited to start this season.
