Today's Google Doodle honors German pianist and composer Clara Schumann, who was born on September 13, 1819.
Clara Schumann wrote very amusingly about Andersen that “...he is the ugliest man alive, yet he looks very interesting...it takes a little while to get used to his manner; generally speaking he is a brilliant person”. In return, Andersen wrote to Robert Schumann that Clara had visited Copenhagen “and flung a bouquet of musical notes into all our hearts”.
Bruno Richard Hauptmann, an illegal German immigrant, was arrested on September 19, 1934 with a ransom bill on his person. Furthermore he had hidden in his garage 14,000 of the Lindbergh ransom money. Though he denied all involvement, and the evidence on him is shaky at best, he was convicted in a circus atmosphere and executed on April 3, 1936 in Trenton, NJ.
