This is another by of many he painted of card players. When I look at this, I am reminded of his Mt. St. Victoire by the way the players are hunched over. Doesn't the whole composition of these very solid figures remind you of Cezanne's mountain?

I used this painting on the cover of my novel, "The Fate of Pryde." Paul Cezanne painted "Chateau Noir". Actually he created numerous versions of it...a real castle in the south of France, owned by a wealthy and reclusive industrialist. He had painted the entire interior with black paint including the furniture. In local lore, it grew to be the home of the devil. remembrancetrilog...
