Pre-bake your cakes and keep them fresh overnight by placing a slice of bread on top. In the morning your bread will be hard as a rock but the cake will remain moist, ready to ice. I have no idea how it works but Bree from Bake Bree swears by it! (Hot tip: check out her chocolate peanut butter cake while you’re there. OMG!)

Cake Cooling Tip: When cooling cake layers, place bread slices on top to keep the cake layers soft and moist while the bread becomes hard as a rock -- What a fun fact. My mom told me it keeps it from cracking in the middle too. @Patty Kelly

Never knew this...bake cake layers the night before, leave out on counter with slice of bread on top so that the cake will not become stale. use this same trick with muffins, cupcakes. - I never knew this!
