Sergeant William Harvey Carney ~ 29 Feb 1840-8 Dec 1908 was the first African American to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. He rescued the US Flag as its' bearer fell & then carried it to the enemy ramparts & back after which he declared: "Boys, the old flag never touched the ground!"

A German soldier collects Russian PTRD-41 (Protivotankovoye ruzhyo Degtyaryova, "Degtyaryov Antitank rifle") rifles after the end of battle. The PTRD-41 was a produced and used from early 1941 by the Red Army. It was a single-shot weapon which fired a 14.5x114mm round. Although unable to penetrate the frontal armor of German tanks, it could penetrate the thinner sides of early-war German tanks as well as thinly armored self-propelled guns and enemy bunkers.
