Lady Evelyn Cavendish, later Duchess of Devonshire, 1897 | Lady Evelyn was born in 1870, daughter of the 5th Marquess of Lansdowne and his wife, Maud. She married Victor Cavendish, who succeeded his uncle as 9th Duke of Devonshire in 1908, in 1892. In this portrait, she is attending the Devonshire House Diamond Jubilee Ball in honor of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. She was Mistress of the Robes to Queen Mary from 1910 to 1916, and again from 1921 until Queen Mary's death in 1953.
