$ Do your students have trouble writing complete sentences? Do they write in fragments and run-ons? Perhaps they write in complete sentences, but their sentences are short and choppy. Sentence Go Round is a simple and fun cooperative learning strategy to teach students how to write longer, more complex sentences. It starts with a short review of fragments, run-ons, and complete sentences. Then students work with a team to expand short, basic sentences into longer, more interesting sentences.

Students need lots of practice writing proper sentences. Just print, laminate, and cut out the sentence cards. Have the children sort the cards, put them in order to make sentences, and write them neatly in their booklet. Another option is to have them write the sentences on lined paper, which is included. There are 6 sentences to unscramble, a booklet to write the sentences (colored and black and white version) and lined paper.

Teach students to look at examples of excellent sentences and ask themselves, "what works well?" Instead of looking at poorly written sentences and fixing them. Let's show our students what great sentences look like! In this resource, there is a list of 20 well written sentences along with a printable response sheet for each sentence. That's one month worth of interactive edits! ($)
