Senator Rebecca Latimer Felton (1835 – 1930) was the first woman to serve as a United States Senator in 1922 -1923. She was 88 years old when she served. In her only Senate speech she said, "When the women of the country come in and sit with you,... you will get ability, you will get integrity of purpose, you will get exalted patriotism, and you will get unstinted usefulness."
Sir Alexander Fleming FRSE, FRS, FRCS (Eng) (6 August 1881 – 11 March 1955) was a Scottish biologist and pharmacologist. He wrote many articles on bacteriology, immunology, and chemotherapy. His best-known discoveries are the discovery of the enzyme lysozyme in 1923 and the antibiotic substance penicillin from the mould Penicillium notatum in 1928, for which he shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945 with Howard Florey and Ernst Boris Chain.
