Boeing South Carolina’s big day is here, with first 787 assembled in North Charleston set to make its debut

The first Lowcountry-built 787 Dreamliner started its engines for the first time Monday as part of preparations to deliver the plane to Air India, the first customer to receive a 787 from Boeing South Carolina. The preparations are going as planned, said Boeing Co. spokeswoman Candy Eslinger, and the company is still shooting for delivery in mid-2012. First flight will be the company’s next milestone, she said.
