Is it necessary to teach students to walk in straight and quiet lines?
I 110% agree with everything you wrote! Nothing drive my fourth graders and I more crazy than noisy classy interrupting our concentration. I find it very rude of the teachers leading the noisy group.
I tell my students we are practicing for when they become drivers.
I do that too, Cathy! I make them stay to the right, and stop at "intersections" to let people go, and thank people who say, "No, you go ahead."
Yep . . . can you imagine 33 4/5th graders just moving like a herd of cattle through a halllway? Lines are necessary and important and they teach us how to be polite and caring citizens of a school community.
