"A SOUIX PRAYER" Grand father---Great Spirit- All over the world, the faces of the people are alike- with tenderness, they- have come- out out of the ground- Look upon your children- that they may face the winds- and walk the good road- to the days of quiet- Grand father---Great Spirit- fill us with the light- give us the strength- to understand- and the eyes to see- teach us to walk the soft earth- as relatives- to all that live. —

Native American Prayer: "Oh, Great Spirit, Whose voice I hear in the winds, And whose breath gives life to all the world, Let me walk in beauty and let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my Spirit may come to you without shame."
Native American Indians believed that feathers were used to heal the heart. Birds were regarded as the highest spirit animal on earth and feathers were used to carry prayers to Great Spirit in the heavens.
May the Warm Winds of Heaven blow softly upon your house. May the Great Spirit bless all who enter there. May your Mocassins make happy tracks in many snows, and may the Rainbow always touch your shoulder. —Cherokee Prayer Blessing (Photo by bp1971)
Too often we worry about the words we use in prayer. What really counts is the spirit & intent behind our words. It is the spirit & intent that the Creator responds to. He reads & listens to our heart. Prayer isn't only when we fold our hands & pray. Prayer is when we talk to the Creator even when we are walking down a path or sitting on a hill or walking in the mountains. The Elders say, walk in prayer. We should be willing to talk with the Great One. Art by Stephanie Campos

It takes men and women who have respect and love for one another to live within the embrace of Father Sky and Mother Earth.
Teach me how to trust my heart, my mind, my intuition, my inner knowing, the senses of my body, the blessings of my spirit. Teach me to trust these things so that I may enter my Sacred Space* and love beyond my fear, and thus Walk in Balance with the passing of each glorious Sun. ~Lakota Prayer *According to the Native People, the Sacred Space is the space between exhalation and inhalation. To Walk in Balance is to have Heaven (spirituality) and Earth (physicality) in Harmony.
Great Spirit, I am Mother. I was made by You so that the image of your love could be brought into existence. May I always carry with me the sacredness of this honor. Creator, I am Daughter. I am the learner of the Traditions. May I carry them forward so that the Elders and Ancestors will be remembered for all time. Maker-Of-All-Things, I am
