Reminder, if you're in need of a watering can you can repurpose a plastic gallon jug by drilling holes into the cap , drill a small hole in the top of the handle for air flow, cover the hole with your thumb when you pour.

Sometimes planters are deeper than our plants really need. Filling them entirely with soil is not only costly, it can lead to over watering simply because the plants will not be able to make use of the deep level moisture. Try using aluminum cans and the plastic pots from the nursery to fill space. It saves money and is a great way to re-purpose and recycle. I do this all the time packing peanuts work also

For deep planters, layer the bottom with old cans and cheap plant pots to save on potting soil.
