Sgt. Stubby fought in 17 battles in WWI. He was in the trenches in France for 18 months, survived being gassed and went on to warn his unit of incoming gas attacks and artillery shelling; he located wounded soldiers, and helped capture a German spy. After the war, he was the Georgetown Hoyas’ mascot. And he's a PITBULL!
In 1958, a Legionary of "13" (13th Demi-Brigade of Foreign Legion) in operations in the Jebel, Algeria, found this starving donkey. The legionnaire brought him back to the base and the animal became the mascot of the unit under the name "Bambi". The legion was given an award for kindness to animals. Real men are kind to animals!
