Crockpot breakfast - Dump 2 sliced apples, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon in the bottom of the crock pot. Pour 2 cups of oatmeal and 4 cups of water on top. Do NOT stir. Cook overnight for 8 - 9 hours on low.

    You can't use quick cook oats with crock pot recipes, I think that is where the mushy disintigrating thing comes from. Try using Steel Cut Oats.

    I made mine with the quick oats because I didn't have the other....it was delicious! It wasn't mushy either.

    The house smelled wonderful but the oatmeal lacked taste and was mushy, despite using steel cut oats. :(

    I have noticed (over the years) that Rival is the only crockpot that I can trust to leave things overnight on low heat without burning. Every other company has come out with new-fangled slow cookers and they always disappoint me by overcooking food. Rival is the one I'd trust for this recipe. And again, I made it with a few modifications and it was delicious. Don't give up on it!

    I'm not one to leave comment or read them, but after this monstrosity I'll make sure to read them all. Maybe it'll be better with the other directions in the comments. Mine was a sour burnt mush.

CROCK POT BROWN SUGAR GARLIC CHICKEN - 4-5 chicken breasts, cut - 1 cup packed brown sugar - 2/3 cup vinegar - 1/4 cup Sprite or 7-Up soda - 2 -3 tbls minced garlic - 2 tbls soy sauce - 1 tsp (regular black or cayenne) Place chicken in crock pot. Mix all remaining ingredients and pour over chicken. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Serve over rice or noodles.
