Use green, yellow, and red colored cups for group work. When a table gets too loud, change the cup to yellow. If the table continues to be too loud, the cup gets changed to red; this means a loss of group time. Students now have to do their work independently and silently. This is great and won't punish the entire class.

Use the cups during group time/center time... Stack them: (each group gets a set) Green, yellow, red. If a group gets too loud, remove the green and place under stack. If it continues, remove the yellow. Once they are on red, that particular group time is over and they begin working silently using paper and pencil Independently. ( idea from Organized Classroom Blog)....this is an old idea, but it really works!
