When my son began to read for himself, he was afraid we might stop reading aloud to him. I promised we would read to him as long as he wanted us to. Sadly, he tired of it first. The last thing I remember reading him was The Lord of the Rings (fifth grade). He would have been capable of reading and comprehending, but it was such heavy going he was happier being read to. Next year's grade six testing placed him at a twelfth grade reading level. Read to your kids.
