Mount San Michel, at times is engulfed by the water, reveals the splendor of its construction. It is a medieval town called Avranches. There is the monastery which gives its name to the place, fortified in the thirteenth century, part of a package with three cities whose fortifications and development are remarkable: Aigues Mortes (1270-1276), meeting point of the Crusaders towards the Holy Land, Carcassonne, famous for its defenses, and Avignon, alternative venue of Christianity (1309-1377).
