Watched a documenatry about China building a dam and the river flooded many, many towns and shrines as it backed up. Whole towns were relocated over a 2 or 3 year period. Maybe this is one of the abandoned towns...?
If it was from a dam I would assume it would be underwater. My guess is investors fell out or something ecological that would prevent residential inhabitants
I think it's an Island somewhere in the Asian part of the world that was abandoned because there was no more coal to mine out... so ppl moved out
I remember seeing something on CBS Sunday Morning about this town. It's exactly what the last commenter said.
That's not China, that's Taiwan. Keelung (jee-lowng) is a port in Taiwan.
First character means "fake/false" or vacation in the 4th tone. 2nd-4th characters refer to island of Haikyo in Japan. Means "Battleship Island" because of its shape. Beautiful photo but is it labeled as an imitation? Interesting stuff online if you search for Gakuranman
It look like it the result of the accident of Chernobyl Nuclear power plant in Ukraine, Russia

This is in Taiwan where there used to be an old gold mine, it became abandoned after the gold ran out. It's near a famous little town in Taiwan near Jinguashi & Jioufen.

For those curious, this was just outside of Keelung, a former coal mining city and current harbor city in Taiwan, not to far from Taipei City. It's a few blocks of abandoned apartment complexes. They were being buiolt in the 1990s when the builder went bankrupt, and no one ever took over. It was finally demolished in 2012.
very much abandoned...
