My first foray into cables. It's a red owl hat I made for my niece for Christmas last year. There were matching mittens, but I didn't take a picture of those. EPIC pattern from Penguin Purls (see link). If the cabling instructions are confusing, there are tons of good instructional videos on YouTube.

I started making mittens last year, when still very new to using double pointed needles. The instructions for this pattern are very easy to follow, and the mittens are quite nice (if basic). Be sure to check your gauge first though. I didn't do that right off the bat, and my first pair came out rather loose.

Good pattern. Very easy to follow. Just make sure to knit a stranded test swatch. I didn't, and my mittens came out rather large.
