In 1955 Charles Laughton stepped behind the camera to direct the "The Night of the Hunter" starring Robert Mitchum who also stepped out of his regular guy/bad boy persona to portray genuine evil. From a script by James Agee this haunting film was too strange to be popular when it was new, but its themes of greed and violence against women resonate more strongly with every passing year.
