Central Park - New York City, New York - General William Tecumseh Sherman Monument Augustus Saint-Gaudens worked on the Sherman monument (1892-1903) first in New York then in his Paris studio, and last at his summer studio in Cornish Vermont. It was cast in bronze in Paris. Appropriately, it is sited so that Sherman marches south where he had his greatest triumph. Saint-Gaudens attended the unveiling but he was sick and worn out.
