US aircraft carrier Bunker Hill (CV-17) burns briskly after being struck by two kamikaze planes within 30 seconds of each other. The attack occurred near the island of Kyushu on May 11, 1945. Bunker Hill lost a total of 346 sailors and airmen killed, 43 more missing (and never found), and 264 wounded. She was sent back to the US to repair the damage and was still in Bremerton, WA when the war ended in August 1945.
