I am going to try to duplicate this recipe. I savored every spoonful trying to figure out how to do so. It was the best soup, and the sandwich wasn't bad either.....
I HATE tomatoes but I LOVED this soup!!!!!!
Tomorrow, I go to the farmers market, with Green Tomatoes at the top of my list. If I can adequately duplicate this recipe, I will post it.

I had looked at that one but it uses bacon not country ham, and I think the CB one had a touch of cream in it as well. I have pinned it, and will fall back on it if what I try doesnt work. Thank you.

I had some yesterday and was so glad they were still serving it. I think they kept it on a couple of extra days due to this "polar vortex"……in other words really cold weather!
I think from the sound of it they have found a winner. Green tomatoes can be obtained at almost any time of year, so I think it will be a keeper for them. Hope so anyway.
I'm sure it had cream in it as well - mine was very, very light green. I wonder if you can use tomatilloes instead of unripe green tomatoes?
I suppose you could John, but to be honest I never really had tomatilloes that were not heavily laced with cilantro so do not know for sure the actual stand alone taste. And the tomatoes were so easy in the blender, were tomotilloes would take more time, husking them and washing and all. Why mess with success.
Just had Cracker Barrel's green tomato soup today & am looking around for a recipe. It was beyond wonderful! Hope someone comes up with the recipe soon :)

I had this soup a few weeks ago. Undoubtedly one of the most delicious soups I've ever had. My husband even loved it. Did not realize when I had it that it was only a temporary, promotional item. Sure hope CB brings it back as a regular menu item. It is wonderful! If anybody does find the true recipe, please let me know.
I tried again last night. It was very close. I used 10oz of Country Style Ham, ground down in my Ninja, 4 green tomatoes pureed, 1 onion chopped, 2 cloves garlic, 1 box of chicken broth, 1/4 cup butter, 1 cup heavy cream, salt and pepper to taste, flour optional.
I sauteed the onion and garlic in the butter, added the ham and cooked for about 10 minutes. then added all other ingredients except the cream and flour and cooked for about 20 minutes. Just before serving add the cream and about 4 tbsp of flour to get a desired thickness. It was really good.

Was it not a well recieved item on the menu Leighann? I was hoping it would be like McDonalds McRibs brought back every so often to keep peoples anticipation up. :(
It was just a promotion. They change them out every so often to keep things in season. If you call home office and request it back they may bring it back.
