Manfred von Richthofen - the “Red Baron”. Despite crashing on his first solo flight, Richthofen would soon become infamous among Allied soldiers and a national hero within Germany.  Between 1916-1918 he would attain 80 confirmed combat victories. This picture was taken in 1917; in April of 1918 he was shot down and killed at the age of 25.

Walther Wenck (18 Sept 1900-1 May 1982) was the youngest general in the German Army World War II. At the end of the war, he commanded the 12th Army. He ordered his army to surrender to the US in order to avoid capture by the Soviets. Before surrendering, he played an important, if unsuccessful, part in the Battle of Berlin. through his efforts aided thousands of German refugees in escaping the Red Army. He was captured & put in a war camp & was released in 1947. He was killed in a car accident.
