I think to reduce the weight of an additional backing, do it as a rag quilt, bringing the seams up to the front and snipping. The back will look great and maybe the addition of the rag seam in front will still look ok.
Yes from what I've seen and read up on some sites say not suitable for a baby because of the weight if them could cause suffocating I had looked into making one for my grand daughter but after reading that I decided against it. I still would like to make maybe a lap quilt or something to throw over a chair. I guess if a person didn't mind the weight a bedspread would be OK but personally I'd feel like I was dying lol key me know what you decide to do hun.
