We know the iPhone 5 is coming and this is thanks to the growing signals of an upcoming launch, and today some news about European mobile operators is also teasing we’re nearing a release date. When the iPhone 4 adopted the micro Sim it caught some operators off-guard, and they don’t want the same problem again when the iPhone 5 jumps to nano-Sim technology.
You could pretty much bank on today being the day for Apple to send out invitations for the iPhone 5 event, and this became a reality in the last couple of hours. You can see the very basic invitation for Apple’s September 12 event on this page, which shows a big “12” for the date in September and also a little clue for the iPhone name.
Apple might have seen a slowdown thanks to the next iPhone about to release, although this didn’t stop the iPhone taking 3.7 million of the 5.1 million smartphones AT sold in the last three months. Apple’s phone also took 2.7 million of the 5.9 million Verizon smartphones sold in the same period. The percentage will be a lot higher towards the end of the year when the new iPhone is launched.
