Have sub read this story. Then students draw their own dream house. Can also be connected with Detroit artist Tyree Guyton.

Great for teaching visualization - students use a clipboard and paper divided into four sections. Cover the pictures as you read so the students cannot see what the Gruffalo looks like. Have the students draw how they think the Gruffalo look like as you read the story. Once the students finish, read the story to the children again but this time showing them the pictures so they could see if their visualization was close to the pictures.

Good idea for next year!

I just bought this book. Have sub read and then kids will draw themselves as an animal's pet.

PURPLE STORIES using the book, Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson. Kindergarteners draw and label their own purple stories!

I do this every year with 2nd Grade. We read the story, "The Hello, Good-bye Window." The students love this project.

LOVE THIS! Leave it on a day that you don't tell your students you will be absent....I totally think I could add to this by making them draw a picture in art class instead of write a story...
