Cottage Look: Getaway Cottage Style
Design charming lamps from old jars and vases found at flea markets, auctions, or thrift stores. Insert a lamp kit inside the jar or vase and you have a beautiful and functional accent for your kitchen. Shop for second hand wood furniture that appears to have some history. Estate sales and flea markets are ideal places to find old or antique furniture that would fit perfectly into this kitchen decorating theme. Keep in mind that the nicks, scratches and slight dents add character to the piece, provided they aren't too obvious. Distress your wood cabinets yourself with a bit of time and creativity. Add knobs or handles to your kitchen cabinets that you've found at the local thrift store. Painting cabinets a warm color or a light, bright color is another option. Braided rugs in front of the kitchen sink or under the eat-in kitchen table keep your feet warm and add country charm to your kitchen. Display pasta, flour, sugar, and like items in large glass jars with metal lids. Or, use antique tins of all shapes and sizes to contain those food items you use the most and like to keep handy. Stack rectangular tins on the counter or in the pantry to add interest.
