We got a card from Emil and Frida. They told us about the Christmas goat. Every year, the city of Gavle, where they live, builds a giant goat made of straw. The Gavle goat is famous for being vandalized or burnt down. Since 1966, the Goat has survived until Christmas Day only 13 times. In 2012, the goat was burned to the ground on December 12. Now the Goat has its own Twitter page (twitter.com/...) and it actually answers people. Apparently it speaks Swedish and English.
St. Lucia - In Sweden, Christmas begins with the annual Saint Lucia Day on December 13. Lucia herself was Christian and died for her faith. The December 13 holiday honors her. Usually, the eldest girl in the family portrays St Lucia, puts on a white robe in the morning and is allowed to wear a crown full of candles. She serves her parents Lucia buns and coffee or mulled wine.
