I wish I had done this for Koa's first birthday. Then take a picture every year with the previous year's photo.

MUST MAKE something like this for the kids next Spring, they are ALWAYS right by me when planting flowers, herbs, veggies & they'd LOVE to have a place of their own to take care of, I'm SURE this will be a "hit" around here for years to come.

May try this! --The newspaper will prevent any grass and weed seeds from germinating, but unlike fabric, it will decompose after about 18 months. By that time, any grass and weed seeds that were present in the soil on planting will be dead. It’s green, it’s cheaper than fabric, and when you decide to remove or redesign the bed later on, you will not have the headache you would with fabric.

When my sister married, I took the half-dead roses from her bouquet. At home, I rooted them by cutting off the heads, making a clean cut on the bottoms, dipping the fresh-cut bottoms in rooting hormone, and putting them in a pot that was half Perlite and half soil. I kept these moist until rooted and then planted them in a shaded location in my garden. This year, on her first anniversary, my sister received a gift that could never be replace: 12 rose bushes from her wedding bouquet.
