Miss Lily Elsie (1886-1962) was a celebrated Edwardian beauty and star of theater, especially of musical comedy – with “The Merry Widow” as her first huge success. She was a favorite of many, such as the prime minister Lloyd George, and it is reputed that Cecil Beaton’s facination with her was the driving force in his interest in fashion, costume and photographic portraiture.

I could pin every work by Mucha in a heart beat. Every time I view his work I am not only inspired but driven to make pieces that have bold contours and simply elegant while great care is given to the design of the page itself. I could write essays about these pieces and it is amazing that a majority of his work was advertisement. My how I wish advertisement went back to this time period.
