Freehand Embroidery. We did this as a mother-daughter craft night around Halloween and supplied iron-on patterns from Sublime Stitching http://www.sublimestitching.com/zombiesandmonsters.html It was good that parents came with the kids: the crowd skewed young and few had done any embroidery before. Fun, but only recommended if you would be able to assist participants.

Embroidered Necklace: Select a design. Simple letters from a script font work well, or you can select other simple line patterns. [...] Use embroidery floss and a needle to work a basic split stitch over the line drawing. Tie off the thread on the back when finished. Wash fabric, press with an iron on medium heat, and arrange in a purchased pendant setting.
