c1790-95, Provence France. Printed cotton calicos were extremely popular during the French revolution and this one is particularly well made with its peplem in the low back. Its typical early block printed pattern from Oberkampf manufacture is called "herbier" which is very close to the small flowered patterns seen in Coromandel coast chintz. Lined with white cotton.
