"Table Texting" is a strategy to use with any piece of text or topic. Pose a higher-level question that encourages thinking among students. Students respond to the question in writing. The teacher collects the papers and redistributes them. Students get to read other responses and reply. The process continues until all of the speech bubbles are completed. Great for upper grades.
Here are three of my favorite tips from 10 Tips for Efficient Essay Grading: 1) Require proof that the paper has been edited/revised. 2) Set a timer so that you don't spend too much time on each paper. 3) Create a key for common errors to cut down on the time it would take to write out comments.
"I’ll pass out two or three poker chips to every student. As we begin the discussion I ask each student to give me back a chip each time they answer a question. Rapidly the talking students use up their chips. Since they can no longer speak in the class it leaves the non-talking students to answer the remaining questions."
Throughout the school year, write down memories that make you smile. On the last day of class, open it up and reread all of the good stuff that made the year wonderful! Love this idea! this would be good for life's memories in general
