the Navasota Current: TEXAS RANGERS! Made around 1908, this photo was taken in Alpine, Texas, and features three Texas Rangers who served in Grimes County. 1) Frank A. Hamer, 3) Marvin E. Bailey and 4) R. M. "Duke" Hudson. The first two became Ranger Captains, and served as Navasota's City Marshal, and Hudson was elected to County Sheriff in 1924.

Just 24, Frank Hamer stepped down from the Texas Rangers to serve the City of Navasota as Marshal. He brought a revolutionary new standard of race equality with him.

Bonnie Parker had this Colt Detective Special .38 revolver (top) strapped to her thigh when she was killed. Frank Hamer took Clyde Barrow's Colt Government Model 1911 .45 caliber pistol from the waistband of Barrow's body after an ambush on May 23, 1934. The weapons are not shown in accurate scale.

On May 23, 1934, Bonnie and Clyde were driving down a back road near their hideout at Bienville Parish, Louisiana. Unbeknownst to them, a posse of four Texas and two Louisiana officers led by ranger captain Frank Hamer were lying low, waiting. Within seconds, the rangers opened fire, delivering more than 100 bullets into the notorious pair.

Texas Lawman Frank Hamer knew how to hunt down criminals. The murdering thieves of the ealy 20th century are legendary but how much do you know about the man who helped end the era of free roaming bank robbers like Bonnie & Clyde ?

Frank Hamer, the Texas Ranger who pursued Bonnie & Clyde...he came over for dinner at my great grandparents the next evening. Pawpaw was a fellow Texas Ranger and friend to Frank.
