Midwestern Foursquare - Modern Prairie Box - 1921 C. L. Bowes
Of the many home styles build during the first half of the 20th century, none was more popular than the Colonial Revival. This particular Dutch Colonial is quite grand with a central hall entry and elegant stairway, a sun room with a fireplace adjoining the living room on one end of the house and a matching open porch on the other. Upstairs, four bedrooms and bath, and a sewing room which could easily have become a walk-in closet.
This house looks like it is designed to be the setting of a murder mystery. Check out all the french doors -- for easy disappearances. Look at that tangle of stairs in the middle of the house. A grand reception hall with twin coat closets? A maid's room AND a trunk room? Anyone who builds this house should know they are going to be murdered in that two door library during a fancy party.
