H.H. 14th Dalai Lama, Dharamsala, India, 1969.

Tenzin Gyatso (6 July 1935) is the 14th and current Dalai Lama. Dalai Lamas are the most influential figures in the Gelugpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, although the 14th has consolidated control over the other lineages in recent years. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, and is also well known for his lifelong advocacy for Tibetans inside and outside Tibet. Tibetans traditionally believe him to be the reincarnation of his predecessors and a manifestation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion.

"This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple and the philosophy is kindness." - Dalai Lama

Be kind, it's always possible

" I believe all suffering is caused by ignorance. People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their happiness or satisfaction. Yet true happiness comes from a sense of peace and contentment, which in turn must be achieved through the cultivation of altruism, of love and compassion, and elimination of ignorance, selfishness, and greed." -Dalai Lama

When asked what surprised him most about humanity, the Dali Lama answered: “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama

The planet does not need more 'successful people'. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kinds. It needs people to live well in their places. It needs people with moral courage willing to join the struggle to make the world habitable and humane and these qualities have little to do with success as our culture has set. " - H.H.The Dalai Lama

Live One Day at a Time – A to Zen of Life; Lessons from the Dalai Lama

Every day.. think as you wake up.. today I am fortunate to be alive. I have a precious human life.. I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself.. to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others. I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can. ~ His Holiness the Dalai Lama
