Sketch | Norman Hartnell | c. 1923 Hartnell designed this dress with two materials in mind: the under dress is of solid material and is covered from shoulder to hem with chiffon. Hartnell added a beaded belt with tassels, matched by a band of beads on the sleeves. The design also shows a large head band with sparkling embroidery.

March 3: On this date in 1913, American suffragettes organized a march down Pennsylvania Avenue. The event was held on the day before Woodrow Wilson's presidential inauguration, as a "march in a spirit of protest against the present political organization of society, from which women are excluded". Notable participants included Helen Keller and Ida B. Wells. The women were met with harassment, and over 200 people were treated for injuries. Despite this, most marchers finished their parade.
