When Tuesday was ironing day.

When Monday was washday, a family would have clean sheets by nightfall and a week's freshly laundered clothing. How did they ever manage it?

I'm Gonna Soap my Blues Away by Kathryn Williams, 1940 Thank God tomorrow is Monday And I have to wash all the clothes I can think of soap and bluing And forget about my woes I can scrub away my heartaches Turn my troubles inside out Run my worries through the wringer Let the wind iron out my doubt I can starch my weak excuses Scrub away my flimsy fears, Build a palisade on clothes lines And shut out all worldly jeers.

My idea of getting lucky is having someone else do the laundry.
