Ever watch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show at Christmas and feel terrible about yourself after? Don't. The way those models look isn't sustainable. They work full-time to be thin and pretty, but prepping for the show goes to another level. There are conflicting reports, but E! news reported that Adriana Lima goes on a liquid diet nine days prior to the show, then consumes no food or water for 12 hours before the show is taped for editing. (That's right, it gets the Adobe treatment too.)
Ok, I am sorry but NO NO NO NO NO. This woman starved herself to look this way--no one is naturally that thin--and if your best friend looked like this you'd probably be pursuing some sort of psychiatric and/or Biblically based help. This is NOT fashion inspiration. ARGH.
This is an unretouched publicity shot of me--Indy Ink-- from the set of a film. This is about three hours' worth of prep work (hair, makeup, costume). We also had to change my character from a pop singer to a country singer because I weighed too much to be believable as a pop singer.
Yahoo Shine estimates that Jennifer Aniston spends $141,037 annually on her looks. I try to keep tabloidy speculation off of this board since it's pointless entertainment, but this article made me think. Just how much money do professional pretty people spend to maintain the attractiveness required to stay employed? If this is anywhere close to accurate, it's at least double an average American's annual wage (and doesn't account for a clothing stylist too).// Love me some Jen, but let's be real!
I'm nursing my sweet 2 mo old daughter at the moment and am choking back tears at this image. Lord Jesus, hide my identity in you that I might model worshipful body image to Juliet. // Supermodel Karlie Kloss, photoshopped at left, and with her real ribs at right. Models are often expected to be extremely thin, but are then airbrushed to look "healthier." This can also be misleading.
Supermodels in 1994. // To my shame I saw this and thought, "Whoa, they look fat." WHAAAAT?? I hate how much my thoughts about God's perfect creation of normal women has been marred first by models two steps away from starvation but then a thousand times more by electronic editing. *sigh*
How to Spot Photoshop, 106: Models aren't considered thin enough, so ribs are removed to reduce body circumference. Sometimes rib indentations are still visible, though the edges of the body are pulled inward using photo editing software. // This pic is HORRIFYING.
Megan Fox in Los Angeles, CA on November 21, 2012. // Her baby was born a week before mine. Blog fodder much? (It's ok that she looks great; it's not ok that US Weekly is shaming all the mothers of 2 month olds who don't look like Megan Fox!)
Sorry, Women's Health, this is Photoshop. Did you even use her real right arm at all? Not realistic. [Brooklyn Decker shows off her perfect bod on Womens Health magazine] // Dude, look at the "fingers" in her hair. Also, either every other mag blows up her breasts or this one shrunk them because that is not what they normally look like!
