To help improve literacy across secondary subjects, this colourful 'desk placemat' can be printed and laminated for students to refer to during written work in any lesson. Topic words can be listed by the teacher before printing or can be added with a dry wipe pen by the student once the place mat has been laminated.

English Functional Skills Lesson 1 Level 1 and 2 These are lessons that are aimed at NC level 5 /6 / GCSE D/C learners who are trying to get Level 1 / 2 in Functional Skills English. I will uploaded as many lessons as I can find. I certainly have the first 4 of this unti that encorporates a little Maths but predominantly English. These lessons look at the notion of family and marriage and whether or not marriage is still relevant.

This could be used as a starter activity. The learners cut out and match the pairs appropriately. It is intended to develop an understanding that there is more than just verbal communication, and sometimes other ways are more appropriate. I use it for Functional Skills English Level 1. I printed it on coloured card for added visual interest. The cards could be laminated and distributed in evelopes to learners, or learners may enjoy cutting them out.

A set of printable cards with spelling rules for the following sounds ai/ay, oi/oy, ou/ow, j/ge/dge, v/ve and ss/ce. This is the first in a whole set of resources that will be built up over time. Sassoon font is used throughout and the resources are created in dyslexia friendly colour schemes. This resources is text only - one with image support will be added at a later date.
