Mary Ruth reached Uhuru Peak via the Grand Traverse in February 2013. She traveled alone and says it is "The best trip in the world!!"

Kelly trekked Thomson Safaris’ Western Approach Route in 2010, but was unable to complete her climb due to altitude sickness. She returned in July 2013 to climb the Grand Traverse and is overjoyed to have succeeded in reaching the summit this time around.

Thomson Safaris was the official tour operator of the MTV celebrity, charity trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Celebrities such as Jessica Biel, Kenna, Lupe Fiasco and Emile Hirsch, and many others, all made it to Uhuru Peak (19,340').
