Escaping the City
Hikes and road trips outside of San Francisco.
Bodega Bay from the deck of the Birds Café. A 90 minute drive and the fish and chips are excellent.
I love Calaveras Big Trees State Park and 80 years later, much of the work done by the CCC is still being enjoyed by park visitors. The Civilian Conservation Corps was established in April 1933 as a means to put thousands of unemployed men back to work during the Great Depression. These CCC volunteers were working at the Corps camp at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Photo by George Frederick Haas, 1933.
