Postage Stamps, Stamp Art and Mail Art

Postage stamps I like and art made with postage stamps as well as other mail art.

One of Molly Rausch's Postage Stamp Paintings. Molly is participating in the exhibit I am curating called Collage + Landscape = Collagescape. Her work will be on view at San Francisco’s Glama-Rama Salon and Gallery. The show runs from July 29 to September 28, 2014. The opening reception is on Friday, August 1.

Return of the Sprites In April I sent out a new series of mail art – The Sprites. Recently one came back, well sort of, Jennifer Utter scanned it and incorporated the sprite into a new piece of mail art that she sent back to me. I love it!

My holiday card and art seeds have been sent all over the world and, though it wasn’t the specific plan, some are coming back to me incorporated into new art.

2014 is off to a good start with this piece of woven mail art from E. Coles in the U.K. waiting in the PO Box the other day.

"Brown Paper Packages Tied Up with Strings" A 4"x4", mixed media piece from the 2011 Project reusing stamps on Christmas Cards I received over the year.

Last June I sent my art samples. This week a terrific, or should I say samplerific, use of the samples was waiting for me in the mailbox. Susanna Lakner’s little book incorporating some of the sampled art is quite wonderful.

Diamond Jubilee created by Peter Mason ~ A portrait created from approximately 4000 used postage stamps of Queen Elizabeth II celebrating her Diamond Jubilee. She is wearing the King George IV State Diadem or which was made in 1820.

The dead have a story to tell, you need to listen. Mail received from Amy Irwen just in time for Día de los Muertos.

More mail from Sandra Lefever this week at ArtLikeArt.  These ones designated to be hidden in books.  It makes me wonder if I just start hiding all the smaller art I get in the mail in my extensive collection of books instead of an archive box. It might be fun to find them or search for them years from now.

Alive or Just Breathing? The latest handmade postcard received from Robin Sparrow in New Zealand.

It's raining in Budapest. A nice big square postcard received from Torma Cauli in Hungary last week.
