Jams, Jellies, Marmalades, Butters
Never realized it could be so easy to make your own, james, jellies, marmalades and butters.
Small Batch Kumquat Marmalade- Kumquats aren’t like other citrus fruit. Instead of having a tart rind & a sweet interior, they keep their sugar in the skin & have their pucker on the inside. Eat them whole. That way, you blend the flavors into a single, delicious marriage. If eating whole kumquats isn’t your thing, don’t think that there isn’t a place for them in your life. They just happen to make a luscious, if slightly energy-intensive, marmalade.
Small Batch Blood Orange Marmalade- When I first started making marmalade, I thought it was the same as any other preserve. Chop the fruit, combine it with sugar & cook until set. You either need to cut away the tough, white pith or treat it in some way so that it tenderizes & loses its chewy bitterness. This recipe uses an overnight soak to help break down the pith, providing a far superior product The fruit becomes tender and it fully suspended in a ruby-hued jelly.
4 Ingredient Fig Jam- When I was little, I thought that Fig Newtons were like a cruel joke. As an adult, some things have changed. I remember the first time I had some fig jam with cheese – it was a remarkable combination. I just couldn’t believe how perfect the cheese went with the figs (but that was before I tried the truffled honey…talk about out of this world), I was actually starting to like figs. I couldn’t wait to give this jam a try.

Clean Eating Persimmon Butter- My sister-in-law has two persimmon trees in her back yard. Thanksgiving day, she sent me home with 8 bags…. that’s right…. 8! I’ve made 6 crock pots of persimmon base, and I still have 7 bags to go. This is gonna be interesting. In light of this, you will probably be seeing a lot of persimmon recipes here in the near future. This is the first time I’ve ever made persimmon butter. And it certainly won’t be the last.
Clean Eating Plum Butter- Friends & family have been giving us plums right & left & it can be tough to keep up with it all! But when somebody gives me so much of a particular fruit, there’s just no way that we can possibly eat it all before it goes bad. So I do what I always do. I dump it in a pot and cook it.
