In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, planes headed for the U.S. were diverted to the nearest airports. Thirty eight planes carrying 6,600 passengers landed at the remote airport of Gander, Newfoundland, a little town of just10,000. Thank you, Canadians! (AP Photo/Nav Canada/AP Photo/Nav Canada)
FBI investigators examine the wreckage of United Airlines Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pa., on Sept. 12, 2001. Terrorists commandeered the plane on Sept. 11 and intended to crash it into either the Capitol Building or the White House in Washington, D.C. After passengers tried to take control of the plane, the hijackers crashed it.
So sad. Never forget... God bless.
